Remember when the only men and women who cared about the environment were tree huggers and hippies? Those days are over, and it looks like we all recognize our role in stopping and possibly reversing the damage being done to our planet. Unless everyone begins to start living much more green we won’t be able to correct the problems of the environment. This must happen soon and living in approaches more friendly to the environment should become a mission for every individual family. Keep reading for some approaches to go green and save energy, generally in the kitchen.

While it may not taste as good, cooking food in the microwave rather than in the oven will save you a packet of money. Perhaps the realization that an oven uses 75% more energy will motivate you to use the microwave more. In comparison with your stove, you can make boiled water as well as steamed vegetables faster, and use quite a bit less energy, by using countertop appliances. You could well be forgiven for thinking that an automatic dishwasher uses more energy than washing dishes the old-fashioned method, but you would be wrong. A dishwasher is especially efficient when it’s full before a cycle is started. Don’t dry the dishes using heat, make use of the cool dry or air dry features to increase the money you save.

From the above it should be clear that just in the kitchen, by itself, there are numerous little opportunities for saving energy and money. Environmentally friendly living is not really that tough. It’s about being functional, most of the time.

Instructions to make Bee's Blackberry Balsamic Vinegar:
  1. Place blackberries in glass or ceramic bowl and pour vinegar over berries.
  2. Using the back of a large fork, smash down berries until small bits remain. (You can use whatever you have handy to squish the berries ).

Gather mixture together and repeat straining process, pressing down firmly on glass or bowl, so you really get all the sweet blackberry pulp.
