The ingredients needed to prepare Rice bake:
- Get 100 g long grain white rice
- Provide 300 ml water
- Get 4 eggs
- Take 225 g cheddar cheese
- Take 50 g butter or margarine
- Take 50 g plain flour (gluten free flour also works)
- Provide 600 ml milk
- Get Parsley (optional) dried 1 tsp or small bunch fresh
- Provide Salt and pepper to season
Steps to make Rice bake:
- Hard boil 4 eggs for 15 minutes. Set aside to cool, then peel and chop.
- Cook rice as per packet instructions. Set aside.
- Mix together eggs, cheese, parsley (if using) and seasoning. Add any veggies or cooked meats you would like and mix lightly to combine. Set aside.
- Melt butter in a saucepan over a low heat.
- Add flour to pan and gradually add milk a tiny bit at a time. Stir constantly. Once all milk is added, bring to the boil. As sauce starts to thicken reduce heat to a low simmer for 2 minutes.
- Add some sauce to a baking dish. Layer veggie cheesy egg mix, then rice, then sauce and repeat. Finish with a layer of sauce.
- Bake for 30 minutes in a preheated oven at 180C or until lightly browned on top.
